Abstract:

Background Preterm birth is the most important factor in neonatal morbidity and mortality. In the case of pregnancy with assisted reproductive technology (ART) we have more percentage of multiple pregnancies which is a strong reason for preterm birth and low birth weight so suggested that ART can affect neonatal outcomes. In this article we searched about neonatal outcomes in ART pregnancies. MaterialsAndMethods We have done a systematic review to find neonatal outcomes in ART pregnancies by related search engine such as Google Scholar, PubMed, Cochrane library and etc., with these key words: neonatal outcomes and ART pregnancies. Results The majority of studies illustrated that ART is associated with multiple pregnancies and multiple pregnancies are the most important reason in neonatal mortality and morbidity due to increased preterm birth rate , low birth weight also it leads to longer duration of hospitalization and more NICU admissions. While there is controversy between these studies and the others that emphasize that although ART lead to preterm birth the neonatal outcomes is not affected by the method of pregnancy was occurred. Conclusion In today medical world, ART are used widely for infertility treatments. Although it is an effective treatment it is associated with numerous risks for mother and fetus. Multiple pregnancies are the main problem of ART treatment in infertile couples. Recent studies show that multiple pregnancies are associated with four to ten times greater prenatal mortality compared to singleton gestations. It has been proposed that infertility itself increases the risk of preterm birth and low birth weight. Considering the above issues, infertility and treatment of which are the important and vulnerable situations for mothers and neonates. Midwives as a health care providers and the first level of primary care, have an integral roles in the prenatal cares. With the better and more effective systematic prenatal care we can improve the neonatal health in ART pregnancies.

Assisted reproductive technology treatment outcomes.

Information on the outcomes of ART treatments in Ireland is not readily available to Irish practitioners. The data for hospital affiliated clinics has been made available for many years and is included in the hospital reports. We present a 10-year analysis of the Irish ART results voluntarily reported by six out of seven IVF clinics. The data was collected from published ESHRE reports and from ...

Clinical outcomes after assisted reproductive technology in twin pregnancies: chorionicity-based comparison

The chorionicity-based evaluation of the perinatal risk in twin pregnancies after assisted reproductive technology (ART) is lacking. A retrospective review was performed of all twin pregnancies monitored prenatally and delivered at our hospital between 2010 and 2014. Chorionicity was diagnosed by ultrasound examination at first trimester and confirmed by postnatal pathology. Pregnancy and perin...

Maternal and Live-birth Outcomes of Pregnancies following Assisted Reproductive Technology: A Retrospective Cohort Study

This study was carried out to explore associations between assisted reproductive technology (ART) and maternal and neonatal outcomes compared with similar outcomes following spontaneously conceived births. We conducted a retrospective cohort study of pregnancies conceived by ART (N = 2641) during 2006-2014 compared to naturally conceived pregnancies (N = 5282) after matching for maternal age an...

Childhood outcomes of assisted reproductive technology.

There is a large population of children conceived via assisted reproductive technology (ART), which continues to increase worldwide, without a clear understanding of associated long-term outcomes. ART children are more likely to be the result of multiple pregnancies, and thus to be born prematurely or low birthweight. There is growing evidence that ART children are phenotypically and biochemica...

IVF pregnancies: neonatal outcomes after the new Italian law on assisted reproduction technology (law 40/2004).

OBJECTIVE To compare maternal and neonatal outcome of pregnancies achieved by assisted reproduction technique (ART) according to the guidelines of the newly established Italian ART law 40/2004, with that of naturally conceived. DESIGN Three hundred and sixty-four ART pregnancies and 304 naturally conceived pregnancies were analyzed in terms of the incidence of obstetric complications and peri...
